It’s probably safe to assume by now that the having amazing brows is no longer a trend and has become an important beauty staple. Achieving the perfect brows can be overwhelming and we all have questions so we turned to WAXON’S very own Brow Queen Delicia to get the scoop on all things brows.

What do you think is the most common brow mistake people make when shaping their own brows at home?

I believe the most common brow mistake is, over tweezing. When I finish shaping someone’s brows, I get the client to hold the mirror and I physically show them their brows and hairs that I’ve left behind. The reason for that is, if you are trying to achieve a specific shape, as a brow specialist, I believe every hair has its place. When you are at home there are so many factors that can obstruct achieving perfect brows; such as light, proper tweezers and good judgement.

How long would you recommend growing out brows for if you want a complete re-shape?

Typically I recommend 3-4 weeks of growth from your last brow shaping.

How many visits would you say it takes to achieve the perfect brow shape for most clients?

3-5 visits is the least I would say it takes to achieve the perfect brow. It often depends on the hair type and growth. I also recommend having your brows tidied up every two weeks to hold shape and avoid at home tweezing.

What benefits do brow tints give to brows?

BROW TINTING IS LIFE!!! I’m always so excited to see what the end result is with a brow shape and tint. Tinting helps achieve the perfect brow in so many ways. It darkens the hair to give the illusion of thicker fuller brows. This is the alternative to brow tattooing. It is a temporary dye lasting 2-4 weeks.

Bushy brows are so in right now, do you think this will be a passing trend?

I am a huge fan of bushy brows but I do believe it will pass. Every brow shape is different and some cannot achieve a bushy brow. I find only a select few come in to achieve a bushy brow. Most do want thicker brows but also want a shaped, super clean and perfectly trimmed brow.

What are your thoughts on brow tattooing, given that brow trends are likely to change?

I am slight biased to this question as my brows are tattooed. I feel like this is a brow trend that will continue for awhile. I had mine done 4 years ago and the brow tattooing game has changed completely since. Now there is more temporary tattooing such as embroidery and micro-blading; typically lasts 2-4 years before having to re-do them or touch them up. I’m definitely do for a touch up. I would only recommend this to people with little to no brow hairs, for those 90s overtweezers and for women with medical issues that can prevent hair growth. It’s a great way to feel and look great. Keep in mind brow tinting is just as good, less expensive and less permanent for women who have fuller brows wanting to achieve more of a temporary fill.

Threading or waxing, is there a difference in overall appearance of brows between the two?

I’m a fan of both but I do have a preference. I AM PRO HARD WAX!  As a hard wax specialist, I find I get the best precision while waxing. I can get as close as I want without messing with the shape. Threading leaves a super clean finish but I much prefer the quality finish of hard wax.

You’re a brow expert, any HOT TIPS from you?

HOT TIP #1 – Don’t be afraid to wax

A huge misconception of waxing is that it pulls the skin. With hard wax I use a couple drops of grapeseed oil to avoid any tugging or pulling of the skin. Using the grapeseed oil also reduces redness and irritation of waxing.

HOT TIP #2- Stay faithful to your brows

I urge all my clients or people inquiring, to stick with a Waxologist and maybe a back up Waxologist for just incase. Everyone has an outlook of your brows find a Waxologist that fits your vision and stick with them. I guarantee that working together you can achieve your brow goals!

HOT TIP  #3- Brow Brush

Brushing your brows are probably something most don’t do. It’s a great way to de-stress brows and to soften a brow powder. It’s also a great way to keep your perfect brows. Instead of brushing all brows upward try brushing upward just at the inner tip of brow and a side ways motion for the rest of the brow before filling them in.

Screen Shot 2016-04-04 at 12.27.57 PM

HOT TIP #4-Brow powder and Gel

Invest in a good brow powder. Pencils tend to leave your brows looking overly done and dark. With a powder it can leave the brows with a softer natural finish. Eyeshadow is not a brow powder. I recommend Waxon’s brow duo, it contains two shades colour for perfect brows. I outline the full brow with a darker shade and lightly fill from a finger tip length to tail end of brow with a lighter shade in an upward motion. To finish a perfectly sculpted brow add a brow gel to keep all that perfection in one place.

HOT TIP #5- Retire your tweezers

I know maintaining your brows can be a costly thing, but it doesn’t have to be. Luckily we have waxbar’s in the city, offering amazing deals like unlimited waxing for the year. Which means you can come in any day any time to get your brows tweeked and cleaned up. Yes, you can even come in everyday if you wanted (however not recommend) once a week  or two weeks will do the trick. If this option isn’t convenient,  I would recommend investing in a good pair of tweezers that won’t cause breakage. A trick when tweezing yourself is to avoid pulling hair in an outward motion but pulling with the direction of the hair growth. It allows your hair to grow back properly and avoid ingrown’s near the brow line.

Screen Shot 2016-04-04 at 12.27.42 PM

HOT TIP #6- Love your brows

Brows aren’t twins they are sisters. Be happy with them. Accept that they are different. Your waxologist will always try to make them look as similar as they can. Nourish them! Making sure you are properly cleansing, lightly exfoliating and moisturizing your brows to rid build up and ensure growth. Find a shape that is attainable for you and don’t be afraid to show them off.

There you have it, everything you need to know to get your brow game strong! We knew there was a reason we called her the Brow Queen.

Perfect Pout

I think we can all agree that 2015 was the year of the brow. “Brows on Fleek” was a phrase everyone was using and we all became obsessed with the perfect brow shape, thickness and shade.

While brows are still a hot beauty trend now, 2016 is shaping up to be the year of LIPS. Everyone is obsessed with getting the perfect pout! We are experimenting with different colours we’ve never tried before and that nineties “dramatic lip” look is all the rage again.

Although lip colour has become our new obsession we aren’t sticking to any of the old nineties “rules” when it comes to what colours you can and cannot wear depending on your skin tone, girl you can wear them all! Reds, pinks, plums and nudes can look fierce on anyone as you choose one that compliments you.

We’ve updated the old lipstick guide and created our own after doing some testing on our WAXON team of beauties.

The Mixed Bag

The first and only rule with make-up is; there are no rules! So if you’re feeling daring and want to mix it up with some OTT shades here are a few of our FAVOURITES…

Spring is here and its time for COLOUR!

Screen Shot 2015-07-30 at 2.05.25 PM

The start of March marks the beginning of lots of awesome things! Spring is just around the corner, Spring/Summer fashion is hitting all of our favourite stores and Easter is coming which gives us an excuse to over indulge in chocolate.

As well as being excited about all of the awesomeness that March will bring we are passionate about Endometriosis Awareness Month. Endometriosis is a chronic illness that affects 1 in 10 Women worldwide and we are joining the fight! This month WAXON is helping spread awareness and raising money for further education and resources for Women affected by Endometriosis.

You may have heard about Endometriosis in the media recently with Lena Dunham pulling out of all of her media appearances due to complications with her Endometriosis. Lena isn’t the only celeb speaking up about the illness, Singer/Songwriter Halsey also shared her own story about living with Endometriosis recently. It isn’t surprising that a lot of women in the media are starting to speak up about their struggles considering that a staggering 1 in 10 Women suffer from the disease!

This week we collaborated with Shari, who writes one of our favourite blogs, to get two Women’s perspectives on living with Endometriosis.

Screen Shot 2016-03-07 at 11.48.11 AM

What is Endometriosis?

Simply put, endometriosis is a disease whereby tissue that lines the inside of the uterus, exists outside the uterus. This “misplaced” tissue can impact a woman’s family, career, sex life, fertility and her ability to carry out a normal life.

S: Women with endometriosis can experience horrendous pain – I luckily only experience this pain a few days a month, but there are women who experience this pain 24/7. I do plan on going off the pill when I am married, but as much as I long to be a mother, the fear of experiencing more pain worries me. The pain I feel is slowly worsening with each year. I am actually on a birth control that enables me to skip my period, but I still get strong pelvic pains every month, even though I experience no bleeding. My mom underwent a hysterectomy when she decided enough was enough and I am certain I will reach that point too. So when someone says they have endometriosis, be mindful! These women are living with a painful invisible illness.

T: The problem with having endometriosis is that there is still so much we don’t know and it effects everyone differently. When I had my surgery my surgeon found endometrial tissue covering my bladder and parts of my uterus and bowel. What a lot of people don’t know is that there is no cure for endometriosis, and even though it can be removed through surgery, it will ultimately grow back. Some women have up to six surgeries in their lifetime, which is not only expensive, but can take a devastating emotional toll. Keep in mind that someone doesn’t necessarily have to look sick to have a chronic illness.

Where It all Began

S: I can vividly remember the day it happened. I was 13 and ½ getting changed for gym class, when I saw it…I had gotten my period. I panicked. How could I get my period? I had no breasts, no body hair and was underweight (I weighed a mere 70 pounds!). There were more developed girls in my grade who still hadn’t gotten theirs. A friend offered me a pad and I attempted to put it on… I was so small that the pad didn’t even fit in my underwear properly.

For the next year I missed school regularly. I would only bleed for two days, but my pelvic pains were so excruciating, they lasted for days. Sometimes they would get so painful that I would throw up from the pain. My mom, who experienced a similar struggle and eventually had a hysterectomy because of it, took me to the doctor. And at the age of 14, I was placed on birth control (try explaining that one to your dad ha ha!).

Over the next few years I continued to miss days of school and regularly went to the doctor to explain my discomfort. Every time I was simply prescribed another birth control. Every time I was led to believe that this pain was normal for girls my age and would get better as I got older. I eventually stopped talking about my pain all together, and suffered in silence. Finally, in a doctor’s office at a university clinic, I was taken seriously. Later on that year I found out I had endometriosis.

T: Like Shari, I can also remember the exact moment I got my period for the first time, it was after school and I was standing in the line at McDonalds, my legs were aching horrendously. I thought I must have over worked my muscles in gym class earlier that day, but when I got home and went to the bathroom, I had gotten my period. I was 14 years old, already quite developed for my age, and all of my friends had already gotten their periods. I remember being excited that I had FINALLY gotten mine! The excitement didn’t last long because every month for years afterward my pain got increasingly worse. The worst day for me was lying on the kitchen floor, screaming out to my mother because I was in so much pain, I was convinced I would pass out or vomit everywhere.

Luckily for me, my mum also has Endometriosis, (she had a hysterectomy when she was 42) so she taught me to be persistent with doctors when they told me there was nothing wrong. I then met a doctor who told me it was 90% likely I had endometriosis just like mum. I tried going on the pill, changing my diet, exercise and a cocktail of pain killers before I decided enough was enough and I paid for surgery. I was 24 years old when I had my laparoscopy, hysteroscopy D+C.

S: After years of experimenting with birth control, horrific pelvic pain, unbearable bloating, extreme moodiness, bowel issues, inconvenient breakouts and fearing infertility. I have learned to become a woman comfortable in her own skin. There are still days where I am curled up in fetal position on the bathroom floor, and prescription painkillers won’t bring any form of relief. But, I’ve learned to not let those days define me.

I think for many young women with endometriosis, the only thing worse than the pain is the guilt, the guilt that comes from the possibility of being infertile. My mom had all of her children by the time she was 23, and any further attempts to conceive again were unsuccessful. She then found out she had endometriosis and polycystic ovary syndrome. The thought of infertility scares me a bit, as I’ve always imagined being a mother, but I am luckily marrying someone who is extremely understanding and reminds me everyday that things happen for a reason.

I hope that this brief outline of my own personal struggle encourages others to be more mindful of women around them. One out of every ten women has endometriosis. It’s time we spread awareness and end the stigma!

T: I try to keep a positive outlook! I have struggled lately with daily pain, it’s been four years since my surgery and I am right back where I started before I had it done. I am currently doing acupuncture, pelvic physio, and diet changes as a means to cope. I am still battling doctors who are pushing to put me back on the pill or try Lupron or Visanne, which are hormonal drugs with terrible side effects. I would be lying if I said some days I didn’t just want to give up!

One of my symptoms is being really tired all of the time, which I think is because there aren’t many days where I am pain free. The worst part for me isn’t the pain. It’s constantly discussing my fertility with doctors, friends, co-workers or even strangers. I’m 28 years old, and I’m sick of doctors telling me I’m going to end up infertile…so I should try to get pregnant now! I’m sick of people asking me what it’s like to be told I probably won’t be able to have a baby. I refuse to feel like a failure because women are “suppose” to have children. I’ve found peace and accept that it’s just not in the cards for me. Infertility is only a very small part of endometriosis, all I want is to live a happy mostly pain free life. Stop the stigma!

Special thanks to Shari from

Waxing 101 – The WAXON Way

Screen Shot 2016-02-25 at 2.14.40 PM

Whether your’re a first time waxer or a seasoned pro you probably have questions when it comes to waxing. We happen to know a thing or two about it so we’ve answered some of the most common questions and added a few little tips to get the most out of your next wax!

Got questions? We got answers!

I’m nervous to get a Brazilian/Manzilian wax does it hurt?

Everyone’s pain tolerance is different but what makes Waxon waxes the BEST is they are considered virtually painless, as the wax adheres only to the hair and not the skin.

What can I expect during a Brazilian/Manzilian wax?

Your Waxologist will bring you into the wax room and have you undress while they prepare for your service. A wipe will be provided for you to freshen up before your wax, or you are welcome to use our restrooms prior to your service.

Your Waxologist will then follow our 5 step process REFRESH • RELAX • WAX • RELIEVE • RENEW. We do our best to have you smooth and hair free within 20 minutes.

I have a mole can I still get waxed?

We avoid waxing over raised moles. We trim any hair coming from the area and wax around it, unless requested otherwise by you.

I have varicose veins can I still get waxed?

We recommend not waxing over prominent varicose veins because you risk exposing the vein, which can cause bleeding if it is close to the skin’s surface. We will only wax over varicose veins if you request and understand the risks.

I have my period can I still get waxed?

Yes, you can! We just want you to be aware that your skin is more sensitive when you are menstruating and your pain tolerance is lower. Just make sure you wear a tampon, tuck the string in and make your Waxologist aware.

I have sensitive skin can I still get waxed?

Yes, you can! Our waxes are designed for even the most sensitive skins, adhering only to the hair and not the skin. If you are unsure, come in and try a test strip to be sure our waxes are suitable for your skin.

I have a baby on the way can I still get waxed?

Yes you can! Just let us know you are expecting when booking your appointment so we can allow extra time because your pain tolerance is lower.

I have diabetes can I still get waxed?

Yes, you can, but please put make us aware and know the risks involved.

Why choose waxing over other hair removal services?

  • Results last longer than shaving
  • Less chance of getting ingrown hairs or rashes
  • Lower cost than laser hair removal
  • It is suitable for almost all skin and hair types; whereas with laser the color of your hair matters for the effectiveness as well as the type of laser they use
  • Waxing has less of a chance of permanently burning the skin like laser hair removal can
  • Although sugaring is all natural, it doesn’t remove all of the fine, vellus hairs like waxing can so you are often left with a less than flawless result

Chemical depilatories such as Veet and Nair do not remove the hair from the root causing faster regrowth. They also can cause the skin to become irritated and sensitive.

Does waxing remove hair permanently?

No, it is a semi-permanent form of hair removal. No form of hair removal is permanent. Even with laser hair removal the hair has the potential to grow back. However, one of the greatest benefits of waxing regularly is that the hair starts to grow back thinner and at a slower rate!

Why can’t I wax and do laser hair removal?

Waxing will lessen the effectiveness of laser hair removal because the laser needs to target the root of the hair, and waxing removes the hair from the root.

Can I wax if I have done laser hair removal before?

We will welcome you back into the world of waxing with open arms! However, you must wait at least 2 – 3 weeks after your last laser hair removal session because the skin can still be quite sensitive from the laser treatment.

How long does my hair have to be to be waxed?

We typically recommend every 3 to 4 weeks, but hair growth varies from person to person. Depending on how fast your hair grows will determine when you will be ready for your next waxing session. Giving your hair time to grow gives the hairs the chance to break through the skin from exfoliation, be the same length and on the same growth schedule. The result is a clean, smooth finish after your next waxing session.

How do I exfoliate?

Wet the desired area then using a sponge, loofah, scrub, brush or glove, rub in the opposite direction of hair growth. This ensures you do not confuse the hair but instead slough off dead skin cells and allow for the hair to grow in free of confusion, decreasing the chance of ingrown hairs!

How long do I have to wait to exfoliate after waxing?

We recommend you wait 24 hours before exfoliating because your pores have been opened when the hair was removed and your skin could still be sensitive.

What is an ingrown hair?

An ingrown hair is where the hair spirals, curls or grows different directions under the skin. It normally appears as a red or white bump or sometimes just appears under the skin but sideways. Shaving is typically the leading cause of ingrown hairs as it cuts the hair at the surface of the skin but does not remove the root.

Other causes of ingrowns hairs are:

  • When clothing rubs against the skin after a hair removal service
  • Clothing is too tight and rubbing against the skin on a normal basis

Irritation from a product.

When I wax I get red bumps, is this normal?

You aren’t the only one in this boat… red bumps post-waxing is totally normal.

When the hair is removed, it is being removed by the root and often times, the follicle can be so deep that it causes an initial shock, resulting in a red bump. The bumps shouldn’t last more than 24 – 48 hours. If you find the bump is more than an initial irritation and continues, appearing more like a rash, contact us.

When NOT to wax

We do not recommend waxing IF…

  • You have a sunburn
  • You have been or plan on being in the sun or tanning bed within 24 hours
  • If you’ve recently had treatments such as: chemical peel, Dermabrasion, Microdermabrasion or cosmetic injections
  • You are currently taking acne medication such as:
    • Accutane (affects all body waxing), Retin-A (affects areas the cream is used on) or any other prescribed acne medication.
    • GOOD NEWS… after 6 months of completing your acne medication, your skin will be less sensitive and less prone to scarring and you will be able to wax again!

Consult your Doctor or Dermatologist about any other concerns.

Simple Face Wipes

Face wipes are great when you don’t have access to a shower or if you are pressed for time. They are a quick and easy way to cleanse all of your make-up off before you start your workout, because panda eyes are inevitable once you get a good sweat going and nobody wants that. Face wipes are also a great refresher post workout when you have to run back to the office straight after your lunch workout.

Our favourite is Simple Face Wipes because they cleanse and refresh your skin without any nasty chemicals or perfumes. Plus they remove even waterproof mascara!

Suvana Organic Paw Paw Balm

Paw Paw balm has many advantages and we have been singing it’s praises for years, it’s hugely popular in Australia and we are thrilled that it has started to gain popularity in Canada. You can use Paw Paw balm post workout for chapped lips, especially if your workout routine involves being outside in the harsh winter elements. If you get cracked or chaffed palms from weight training Paw Paw ointment is a great way to heal the damaged area.

We love Suvana Paw Paw Balm because it has combined Paw Paw fruit with coconut oil, vanilla bean oil, cocoa butter and vitamin E .It is 100% petrochemical free which means it’s just pure goodness for your skin!

Twistband Hair Ties

Keeping hair ties handy in your gym bag is a must, whether you are hitting a lunchtime Pilates class or going for a 5 mile jog you don’t want your hair getting in the way.

Our favourite hair ties on the market are by Twistband, they have made a hair tie that is designed not to leave kinks or damage your hair. There’s nothing worse then throwing your hair in a topknot for a quick workout and then having a huge kink in it when you take it out.

We also love them because of their super cute colours and designs so they look great on your wrist when you aren’t wearing them in your hair!

I Love My Muff Wipes

Whether you have no access to a shower or no time to take one, feminine wipes are a nice way to keep you feeling fresh down where it counts. Muff Wipes by I Love My Muff are so convenient because they are individually wrapped so you can toss a few in your gym bag and they won’t dry out or lose their freshness. Because they are specifically designed feminine wipes you know they are safe to use down there.

Muff wipes contain extracts of cucumber, chamomile flower, vitamin E and lavender, which mean they smell heavenly without being over perfumed!

Did we mention they are also vegan and 100% free of parabens, SLS and synthetic fragrances? Even better!

Physicians Formula Tinted Moisturizer

Tinted moisturizers are great after a workout when you have somewhere to be and your looking a little flushed. Nobody wants to put a full face of makeup on when they’ve just worked their butt off at the gym. Also your pores are likely wide open from working up a sweat so you don’t want to go clogging them with a heavy foundation, that’s only going to lead to breakouts!

Choosing an organic tinted moisturizer is important and that’s why we have chosen Physicians Formula Tinted Moisturizer. 100% of the Ingredients are of Natural Origin. 70% of the Ingredients are Organic. It is hypoallergenic, dermatologist recommended and vegan friendly. Keeping your skin hydrated after working out is super important and this will definitely do the trick.

NYX Oil Absorbing Sheets

Fight shine and oil build up after a workout with oil absorbing sheets. They are super convenient because they come in tiny compressed packages that can be taken anywhere. You simply blot the sheet on any areas you have access oil like the t-zone and it will absorb it naturally, the fine powder on each sheet will also help fight any further shine throughout the day and slightly decrease the look of redness.

We love NYX Blotting Paper because they have come up with three different types that suit everyone’s skin. There is Matte, Fresh Face, Green Tea and Tea Tree to choose from. There are 100 sheets in each package which means they will last awhile in your gym bag.

Save Your Skin This Winter

Screen Shot 2015-11-23 at 3.54.29 PM

It happens every year. We try to forget it, try to deny it, and try not to cry when there’s no more avoiding it, its Winter. That’s right ladies Fall’s ugly step sister has graced us with her presence early and we couldn’t be more displeased.

Winter is so awful it’s hard to pick just one thing we hate about it but the thing we hate the most is the toll it takes on our skin. Avoiding dry cracked and irritated skin can be near impossible in Canada but we have come up with some quick tips and tricks that will stop your skin suffering this year.

To get more out of your moisturizer – exfoliate before applying it every time. Exfoliating gets rid of dead skin cells and smoothes skin. Dead skin cells create a barrier making it harder for moisturizing products to do their job.

Use Ointment

Ditch your lip-gloss and start using an ointment for your lips. An ointment will last longer but also sink in deeper. Ointments repair damage created by harsh winds and blisteringly cold temperatures but also protect against any further damage.

Richer Is Better

The heavier the moisturizer the better! Lotions are great for summer but for winter you need the extra nourishment of a body butter or body oil. Remember to exfoliate before applying for maximum use!

Water, Water, Water

Dry skin is caused by many factors but dehydration is one that is easy to manage. Drink water until it comes out of your ears! Your skin will thank you for it, not to mention drinking a ton of water helps to flush out toxins that can lead to the dreaded flu this winter.

Sooth Sniffles

Having a runny nose is hard to avoid in winter and tissues can feel like sandpaper after constant wiping. Use the same ointment you would on your lips for the inside and outside of your nose to combat dry and flaky skin. Remember coconut oil straight from the tub is a great all-natural skin ointment that will cost you pennies.

Stay Protected

Even though winter feels like the eternal darkness, the sun is actually shining behind those clouds and UV Rays are still hitting your skin. Protect your skin from harm by using sunscreen on exposed skin; most make-up contains small amounts of SPF, which is perfect for winter. SPF also helps lock in moisture by creating a barrier between the harsh elements and your skin so it has multiple purposes!

Banish Cracks on your Feet

Gently squeeze on one to two drops of NON TOXIC Krazy glue on cracked heals or nails and hold closed for about 30 to 60 seconds. When the glue softens, peel it away and voila! The crack should be healed.

Beware Of Baths

Avoid really hot baths however tempting they might be! The hot temperature combined with water, breaks down the surface lipids that keeps your skin moisturized. Keep baths to a maximum of twenty minutes to avoid those dried out prune fingers.

If you can’t bare the thought of going without long soaks in the tub add ½ cup of dried rolled oats in a pair of old tights. Oats contain anti-inflammatory ingredients, which soothe dry and flakey skin.

Fight Flakage

Use your chaptsick on dry flaky eyebrows, elbows and eyelids. Moisturizing and healing lip balms help to soothe the itchiness of dry skin but also prevents extra flakage. As a bonus using chapstick on your brows helps keep them in place and looking on fleek all day!

The Skinny on Celeb Beauty Trends

You can’t be a Woman today without being constantly bombarded by a new celebrity beauty trend every five minutes, Facebook, instagram, twitter, gossip websites and blogs are full of them! While most of them are great, some of them are downright ridiculous and you have to question if they actually work or if someone just made them up for a laugh. So we did our research on a few to see what you should and shouldn’t believe.

No Poo Method

Hold up! Its not what it sounds like, the no poo method is the theory of not washing your hair with any shampoo but simply just rinsing it with water in the shower every night. Apparently this is Kim Kardashian’s secret to shiny full hair. The idea is that the natural oils that your scalp produces keeps the hair shiny and smooth and using shampoo is stripping away all the goodness.

Rating image1

While we are not saying this doesn’t work, the no poo method apparently takes four to six weeks to start showing results and to be honest just the thought makes our heads itch. Our research has shown us that washing your hair less often definitely has its benefits so instead of never washing your hair again try only washing it every two to three days and you’ll see great results!

Hot Lemon Water

We’ve all heard this one! Celebs like Miranda Kerr have been claiming this as their beauty “secret” for years. Instead of drinking coffee every morning when you wake up boil a cup of water and add two lemon slices to it, drink the entire thing and don’t eat anything for at least an hour afterwards. The lemon water is supposed to boost your metabolism, abolish hunger cravings, and detoxify your skin and major organs.

Rating image2

This one does actually work if you stick to it and that’s the main problem we had. Replacing your morning cup of coffee and waking up a whole hour early just to drink it is not only time consuming but also who has that kind of discipline? If you can handle this one then props to you! But we’ll stick to an extra hour of snooze and our morning Starbucks run…

Coffee Grounds

Using coffee grounds as an exfoliant is suppose to boost blood flow and smooth out the skin. Simply add ground up coffee to your body wash and use it every day to see results within a week. Halle Berry swears by this one and has been using the technique for years.

Rating image3

This one actually works! The texture of the grounds works wonders getting rid of dead skin cells and the caffeine is an age old cellulite killer. What’s even better is that its super cheap and easy to get your hands on.

Bee Venom Facial

Know as “Natural Botox” the bee venom plumps up skin by tricking it into thinking it’s been stung giving you youthful, line free skin. There are hundreds of bee venom facial peels, masks and lotions you can purchase or you can have it directly injected into your face. A tonne of celebs swear by this one including Kylie Minogue and Kate Middleton who apparently had it done before the Royal wedding in 2012.

Rating image4

We didn’t try this one because we didn’t have a lazy $500 lying around but also any beauty treatment with the word venom in it didn’t seem worth the risk. If anyone does try it and has success let us know!

Vaseline Eye Treatment

Using a quarter of a teaspoon of Vaseline under the eyes every night prevents fine lines and wrinkles. Jennifer Aniston has credited this for her youthful appearance. Other celebs like Rachel Bilson have recommended using Vaseline as an eye makeup remover, its gentle and gets rid of even waterproof makeup.

Rating image5

Screen Shot 2015-11-17 at 4.24.16 PM

Its simple, cost affective and gets rid of dry tired eyes. Its not going to completely eradicate eye wrinkles but it will prevent dry skin, which is one of the causes of eye wrinkles. Using it as a makeup remover is genius! It totally works and you only need the smallest amount to get rid of all traces of stubborn eye makeup. We found it works really quickly so you don’t have to scrub at your eyes to get everything off. As a bonus it doesn’t sting your eyes if you accidently get some in there, which makes it the perfect “lazy girl” make-up remover after a long night out.

Bio Oil

Slathering your skin in Bio-Oil every night before bed keeps skin smooth and supple. Kim and Khloe Kardashian have just come out and said they use this nightly. Bio Oil contains vitamin E and PureCellin oil which moisturizers dry skin as well as combating uneven skin tone, scars and stretch marks.

Rating image2

It’s definitely great for dry skin and its perfect to use on the face and body in winter when your skin is feeling chapped and flaky but we didn’t see a reduction in stretch marks or scaring after a months use. However it does smell heavenly and our skin was as soft as a babies…you know.

Ice Water Face Dunk
By submerging your face in ice water every morning you can reduce puffiness and boost circulation. Kate Hudson has said she does this every morning.

Rating image3

It does get rid of puffiness and wakes you up quicker then a shot of espresso! We probably won’t do this every morning but would definitely recommend it on days where you wake up with morning puff face. Gently rubbing ice cubes under your eyes for a few minutes in the morning also works really well if you have been crying the night before and you want to reduce any puffiness.

Hemorrhoid Cream

Haemorrhoid creams have ingredients in them that help tighten skin temporarily by constricting the blood vessels in the skin and reducing the swelling that causes bags under the eyes. This is one we’ve been hearing since we were younger and its still a firm favourite for Sandra Bullock.

Rating image5

This one totally works! Its quick and simple and you will notice instant results. Nobody in the office will know that you didn’t get enough sleep last night and you’ll look fresh in an instant. The only downside is the embarrassment of going to buy a tube of haemorrhoid cream so maybe buy in bulk to avoid frequent trips to the drug store.

Ditch the Toothpaste
You can thank Catharine Zeta-Jones for this one; she uses fruit like strawberry or pineapple to scrub her teeth clean instead of toothpaste. The acid in the fruit is meant to break down plaque and keep the teeth looking pearly white.

Rating image6

No, just, no. Toothpaste was invented for a reason and if we want white teeth we’ll just buy the whitening kind.

Red Wine Soak

Red wine is delicious for drinking but apparently its also great for renewing your skin. By adding one to two cups to your nightly bath and soaking in it for 30 minutes your skin will feel more moisturized. Terri Hatcher has sworn by this for years.

Rating image1

We tried it for a week but we didn’t see much of a difference maybe its one of those ones you have to do over a long period of time but frankly that just sounds like a waste of good wine and an expensive habit to boot!

Kitty Litter Facial

In lieu of expensive exfoliating treatments or products use kitty litter mixed with water to exfoliate your skin. Snooki has admitted that she’s done this a few times while on a budget and it works a treat.

Rating image4

Sure in theory this probably would work since the texture of the kitty litter would exfoliate the skin and rid it of dead skin cells, but nobody wants to put kitty litter on their face! There’s a range of great products on the market that you can afford on a budget and if you are down with DIY exfoliating try using sugar mixed with water and essential oils for a natural exfoliant.
