There has been some ridiculous and downright hilarious photos and videos circling the internet in the last week after impressionable teens across the world decided to take up the #kyliejennerchallenge. It seems like beauty fads are getting more and more ridiculous that there is no way they can actually work, right? We decided to do our research and see if this is a safe and effective way to enhance your pout without the use of injectables.

First off, what does the #kyliejennerchallenge entail? Its pretty simple really, you take a shot glass or one of the many “lip enhancers” such as Fillips (yes its a real thing), squish your lips into it and suck. The amount of time varies for desired results but according to the internet this can be anywhere form thirty seconds to five minutes.

So is it effective? Well yes and no, it will make your lips bigger if you do it correctly but you will need to keep doing it every one to four hours if you want fuller looking lips all day.

What can go wrong? Well A LOT! A quick google search of #kyliejennerchallenge comes up with a treasure trove of hilariousness, people failed and they failed hard. Challengers experienced anything from painful swollen lips to bruising lasting up to a week, here are just some of the awful results…

Our verdict is that its just a passing fad that is not only dangerous but unrealistic and inconvenient. Who has time to plump their lips every hour? and if something is painful and causes bruising its probably our bodies way of telling us no! The videos and photos online are hilarious so we’ll enjoy this beauty fad as a spectator and stick to lip liner and gloss.

Dr Noor Almaani, Dermatologist at The Private Clinic of Harley Street, told MailOnline: ‘Taking regular breaks from wearing make-up could be a wise decision, as it will enable your skin to recover and it could reduce the level of irritation caused by wearing make-up over long periods of time’.

This doesn’t mean abandoning your skincare regime for two days a week its still important to cleanse, tone and moisturize you just get to skip the hassle of make-up. Sounds simple but does it actually work? According to celebrities such as Gwenyth Paltrow and Jennifer Lopez it does! If it means beautiful younger looking skin sign us up!
