Winter has come to an end and our skin and hair has taken a beating, lets be honest snow might look pretty but those icy winds and below ridiculous temperatures can dry out your skin and hair. But with all the Summer festivals, beach holidays and cute outfits to save up for who has room in their budget to spend money on expensive skin and hair treatments? Not I, I hear you say, well luckily we have scoured the deep corners of the internet to find some brilliant DIY beauty treatments that are perfect for the girl on a budget.
DIY hair treatments for ALL hair types..
Avocado and Honey – All Hair Tyes
Use the flesh from one whole avocado and mix together in a bowl with a tablespoon of honey. Apply to the hair from roots to ends and allow it to sit for 20 minutes, then rinse!
Olive Oil and Egg – Dry Hair
Use two whole eggs and mix together with three tablespoons of extra virgin olive oil. Apply to the hair from roots to ends and allow to sit for 20 minutes, then rinse!
Pro Tip : This one can get pretty messy so you can pop on a shower cap or wrap your hair in saran wrap. This creates heat and opens up the hair follicles to allow for a deeper penetration.
Apple Cider Vinegar and Lemon – Oily Hair
Use the grated peel of one whole lemon and mix with a quarter of a cup of apple cider vinegar. Apply to the hair from roots to ends and allow to sit for 15 minutes, then rinse!
Banana, Honey and Almond – Dry Flaky Scalp
Use half a ripened banana, mash it up and mix together in a bowl with two tablespoons of honey and a few drops of almond oil. Apply to the hair from roots to ends making sure you concentrate on the scalp and allow to sit for 20 minutes, then rinse!
Get rid of the pesky blackheads by using a lemon, some sugar and a teaspoon of honey. Cut the lemon in half and apply the honey directly to it then sprinkle the sugar on top. Rub all over problem areas, concentrate on blackhead prone areas like the nose, chin and between the brows. After you have given your face a good scrub rinse away any excess!
The lack of Vitamin D during winter can be a cause for dark circle under the eyes, luckily there are plenty of DIY treatments that you find simply by opening your fridge.
Cucumber – Cut two thick slices of cucumber and place them in the fridge for 30 minutes then place them on your eyes for 10- 15 minutes. You can then use the juice of the cucumber and combine with lemon juice, soak two cotton balls in the picture and apply to the eyes for 15 minutes. Then rinse and voila bye bye dark circles!
Pro Tip : Repeat on a daily basis for quicker results
Potatoes – Sounds strange but potato has a natural bleaching agent that can get rid of dark circles. Grate one potato and extract the juice, pop the juice in the fridge until cool then soak two cotton balls into the mixture. Rest the cotton balls on your eyes for 10 – 15minutes then rinse. This trick will also help to reduce puffiness, yay for added bonuses!
Tomatoes – Squeeze the juice the out of a ripe tomato and mix it together in a bowl with lemon juice, use equal parts. Stir the mixture well, apply the juice to dark circle under the eye using your fingers or a tissue soaked in the mixture. Let it sit for ten minutes, be careful not to get any in your eye!

Turmeric Face Mask
There are many variations on this face mask recipe but they all have one thing in common, Turmeric. Turmeric acts as an anti-inflammatory, antioxidant and anti-bacterial agent which is why its so great to add to a face mask.
Combine one teaspoon of turmeric, one teaspoon of honey and one teaspoon of milk together in a bowl, you can also use yoghurt if you don’t have any milk handy. After you have washed your face and removed all of your makeup apply the mixture to the entire face. Let it sit for 30 minutes and rinse thoroughly.
Pro Tip: Wear an old button up shirt or cape to avoid any stains on close, turmeric is hard to get out of clothes!
DIY nail whitening..
Nails looking a tad yellow? Mix together lemon juice and white vinegar in a bowl and dilute with a little water. Soak your nails in the mixture for 15 minutes the use a nail brush to scrub under the nails and for any stubborn stains.
